ARTIST BIO

My name, as you most likely saw on the title page, is Callahan Bailey.  My interest in digital art began with loop-based music creation at the age of 6, and since a young child, digital art has held a presence in my life. My favorite mediums are music production and digital design in Photoshop (mainly album art and clothing merchandise).

For me, music and visual art are the ways I release when I feel something overwhelming – whether that is euphoria, sadness, or unease. I used to try and force myself to create; working for record labels or doing freelance commissions was fun, but I found that my favorite work comes from when I feel very inspired to bring an idea to life naturally. Now, my approach is to mainly create when I feel the creative itch.

The following is a list of attributes that tend to strike a chord with me: film granularity, rich animation, classical sculptures and architecture, Y2K/computer art aesthetic, heavenly/angelic themes, “drained” art, stark juxtaposition, 90s-2000s 3D design, and dark/moody scenes. I aim to create pieces that are inspired by themes like these, but with my own interpretation.

In the future, my goal is to evoke a strong feeling in the viewer of my art. I have mainly made music when I create, but I want to make more advanced visual art. I want to create images that make people feel weightless, feel at peace, and feel alone. To question what they are, and ultimately feel inspired to create themselves.
